Signs that you are more creative than you think

Hey Me <A conversation for me and In me>

Forget for a second what you've been told - that you're not that creative, or that you're not that talented.

You are a creator. You were born to create. You were created to create. That's just part of your nature whether you are aware of it or not.

So I want to share some of the signs that you are way more creative than you think.

If you find yourself in 1 or a few points, I want you to not just read it and go about your day but truly carry this belief about yourself and bring it to all aspects of your life. You're ready?

#1 Sign: You have too many interests

You have too many interests - all the instruments you want to play, all the books you want to read, all the places you want to visit, all the languages you want to learn and you feel like life is too short to fulfill all of that.

You don't know what to stick to and you get overwhelmed. That's a good sign, meaning that your creativity wants to burst out through many ways, not just one.

Most creative people are creative at many things - they don't choose just one. It feels almost as if choosing one would go against their nature.

Too often you're recommended to pick one thing and become an expert at it but that sounds so unbearably hard. Here's the good news. The most creative people are beginners forever. Instead of being afraid of being a beginner, embrace it.

''Experts claim to have many years of experience. What they actually have is one year's experience repeated many times.'' (''You are more creative than you think'' Rod Judkins)

"Whatever I know how to do, I've already done. Therefore I must always do what I do not know how to do." - Salvador Dali

#2 Sign: You doubt everything

You doubt everything. You ask the question: "why is it like that?" When you look at how something is done - a process, a system, a "normal" way - and your brain immediately goes but why though?

there has to be a better way
 - that's not negativity. That's your creative mind refusing to accept the default.

Many fear doubt, but it's the door to new potential. Doubt is the key to unlocking new ideas.

Einstein doubted Newton. Picasso doubted Michelangelo. Beethoven doubted Mozart. That's why they moved things forward.

If Einstein had believed that Newton was right, we would have no theory of relativity. If Picasso had believed in Michelangelo's view of the world, he would not have developed cubism.

"Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd."

- Voltaire

Embrace your doubts. That's when you come up with the best ideas: new apps, new methods, new businesses, new ways to live a better life.

#3 Sign: You feel like an imposter

You feel like a fraud when you create things. You feel like you're not good enough to post that video, to create something new, to speak up at work.

And even when you do your work successfully, you feel like someone will reveal that you're not that good at some point.

Here is the truth you might need to hear: the greatest artists suffer from the greatest self-doubt. They use this feeling as a driving force to do better, rather than something that holds them back.

"We're all different and we're all imperfect, and the imperfections are what makes each of us and our work interesting. We create pieces reflective of who we are, and if insecurity is part of who we are, then our work will have a greater degree of truth in it as a result." - Rick Rubin, The Creative Act

Because they feel inadequate, they have to prove they are not. Self-doubt keeps them diligent. Without it, they wouldn't keep striving for higher standards. Fear of failure is a great motivator and it keeps the creative ego in check.

This feeling is an energy - but you can choose how to use it: make it stop you or make it move you forward.

#4 Sign: You notice things other people walk past

While most people are moving through life to get somewhere, you're stopping to notice things that look randomly beautiful to you, things that don't make sense to others.

You love to observe. You notice. You find the extraordinary in ordinary things.

That's a sign that you're more creative than you think. The greatest artists are the people who observe the most.

The world is full of clues and ideas. Creative people are just the ones paying attention.

Turner (famous painter) once tied himself to the mast of a ship during a violent storm for 4 hours just so he could watch it up close and paint it later.

While travelling in Canada, Clarence Birdseye ate some fish that had been naturally frozen and later thawed. He used nature's idea and the frozen-food industry took off.

#5 Sign: You've been told you're "too much" or "too sensitive"

That's the reason why many artists became artists in the first place: their incredible sensitivity.

I want you to read this quote from one of my fav book ‘’Creative Act’’ by Rick Rubin:

"If you see tremendous beauty or tremendous pain where other people see little or nothing at all, you're confronted with big feelings all the time. These emotions can be confusing and overwhelming. When those around you don't see what you see and feel what you feel, this can lead to a sense of isolation and a general feeling of not belonging, of otherness. These charged emotions, powerful when expressed in the work, are the same dark clouds that beg to be numbed to allow sleep or to get out of bed and face the day in the morning. It's a blessing and a curse."
